The shape of the five days
The trip most first-timers should do. Every day below is adjustable — we build the final route around your dates.
Day 1
Arrival at CMB
Skip Colombo. We drive straight up to the Sigiriya / Dambulla area. Rest if you landed overnight — there is nothing to prove on day one.
Day 2
Sigiriya and Dambulla
Sigiriya Lion Rock at opening, before the heat and the coaches. Dambulla Golden Cave Temple afterwards, when the light is good inside.
Day 3
Polonnaruwa
The medieval capital, unhurried. It rewards a slow morning rather than a dash between the headline stones.
Day 4
Anuradhapura
The oldest of the capitals — dagobas, tanks and the sacred bo tree. Spread out, so having the vehicle with you matters.
Day 5
Kandy or the airport
Kandy, with the Temple of the Tooth if you want it — or a CMB airport run instead if you are flying that night.
